For Matignon, the oppositions are in “denial”. Elisabeth Borne participated this Tuesday in an intergroup meeting of the majority (Renaissance, Modem and Horizons) in the National Assembly while a new day of national strike against the pension reform was taking place at the same time. In this regard, Elisabeth Borne said that it was necessary to “respect the opinions of those who demonstrate.”
“It’s democracy, let’s never be provocative,” he added, comments reported to BFMTV by several participants in the intergroup meeting.
“Watch out for all the lies”
The text, examined in the Social Affairs Committee until Wednesday night, is the subject of multiple amendments by the opposition. But the President of the Government estimated this Tuesday that these “have nothing to offer, except a reduction in pensions, a tax increase or break the dynamics of employment.”
“Be attentive to all the lies,” she continued before the deputies of the majority, assuring that the reform “does not penalize women” and that “we will not retire at 64 overnight.”
“Some would like to fuel a fight over figures on the balance sheet of the regime, that has a name: denial,” denounced Élisabeth Borne, attacking in particular the Nupes “who tell us that there is no financing problem (and) yet they propose to increase the massively taxed.
The head of government, who reaffirmed this Monday that the reform is “essential to save the pension system”, assured that the majority “will be united” in the reform. A statement that, however, does not reflect reality, since several renaissance deputies have expressed their intention not to vote on the text of the executive.
“I don’t doubt for a second that the majority will be united. They have always united behind the President of the Republic and his project ”, declared the Prime Minister.
Pending the vote on the bill in the National Assembly, Matignon can count on the support of the Élysée. On a trip to The Hague (Netherlands) on Monday, Emmanuel Macron also considered the pension reform “essential when we compare ourselves in Europe.”
