Pensions: Philippe defends the reform that he considers “necessary” but “less ambitious” than his

The former prime minister, a BFMTV guest, said he was “obviously in favor” of the government’s pension reform.

“Obviously I am in favor of this reform, without ambiguity, without inconvenience, without I don’t know what entanglement.” The mayor of Le Havre and former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, an exceptional guest of BFMTV, on Thursday gave his support to the pension reform carried out by the Government of Elisabeth Borne.

“I will try to say why I think this reform is necessary, why it is good for the nation, and why people […] the financial and economic demographic reality must be taken into account,” he said.

“If we want to guarantee our country constant prosperity, even more prosperity, and finance our social justice, then we must work harder,” continued the former head of government, “the reform promoted by Élisabeth Borne fits perfectly into this logic and that is why I am perfectly in favor of this reform”.

Quite silent since the beginning of the debates around the text, Édouard Philippe explains “to speak (r) little because I decided to speak little” since his departure from Matignon.

A “less ambitious” reform than that of 2019

If the text of Matignon’s tenant differs from that initially carried out by his predecessor (the 2019 pension reform provided for a points system, Editor’s Note), Édouard Philippe still points to “common points”.

“It is also based on the idea that we will have to work longer,” said the mayor of Havre, judging him, however, “more limited in his ambitions […] in the 2019 reform we went from 42 regimes to a single regime”.

“Élisabeth Borne said her-même: my ambition, but tout aussi indispensable parce qu’elle intends to balance the system, to guarantee the level of future pensions without écraser concitoyens de cotisations excessivees”, ajoute-t- He.

“We must balance our accounts”

“Therefore, it makes it possible to save or balance the social system to which we are all attached”, continued the former tenant of Matignon, explaining that “we must balance our accounts”.

“With the demography that we have, the drop in the birth rate, the increase in life expectancy, the fact that more and more young people are doing more and more studies, that we have an increasingly unbalanced life and that it has no consequences . for us, we are wrong”, said Édouard Philippe again.
