Employment of the elderly: Terminal favorable to “sanctions” against companies that have “bad practices”

The Prime Minister, invited this Thursday evening by France 2, estimated that “we can go further” with regard to the employment rate of the elderly.

Elisabeth Borne said she was in favor of “sanctions” against companies that have “bad practices” in employing the elderly, Thursday on France 2 during an interview dedicated to pension reform.

Regarding the employment rate for older adults that the government wants to put, “I think we can go further (…) saying that companies whose rate shows that they do not have good practices with respect to older adults must implement an action plan which will obviously be negotiated within the company,” he said.

“And if they don’t, or if there are no effects to correct the bad practices, then there may be sanctions,” he added.

Opponents of government reform believe companies should first be encouraged to keep their oldest employees, before considering raising the legal retirement age from 62 to 64. This report is at the heart of the government project.
