Pap Ndiaye wants to be “at the forefront” of the fight against bullying, particularly bullying directed against LGBT+ students. In a video posted this Friday on his Twitter account, the minister thus affirms his commitment against “physical and moral violence”, after the suicide in the Vosges of Lucas, 13, stigmatized by his homosexuality .
As soon as the investigation was opened by the Epinal prosecutor’s office, the adolescent’s relatives assured that Lucas had been the victim, for several months, of insults and mockery by classmates. Four of them are returned to court for “bullying”. Pap Ndiaye intends to strengthen his policy so that such tragedies do not happen again.
“We must mobilize against all forms of harassment that LGBT students may suffer”, insists the Minister of National Education.
For a “more welcoming” school
Pap Ndiaye explains that he has established “at the universities, student ambassadors and adult role models who we will specifically train on LGBT issues.” She also develops, in each academy, LGBT observatories to initiate prevention and support actions for educational teams and implement training.
“A more welcoming school for LGBT students is a more welcoming school for everyone”, insists the minister.
On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, on May 17, it will also launch an awareness campaign against homophobia at school, focused on welcoming LGBT+ students.
“We know that compared to heterosexual students, gay and lesbian students are four times more likely to attempt suicide, when it is eleven times more for young transsexuals,” the Minister of Education detailed this Wednesday in an interview published on the website from LGBTQ+ Têtu Magazine.
