“It’s obviously something that has deeply affected my family.” On Saturday, on RTL, Gérald Darmanin returned to an episode in his life, about which he rarely opens up: the death of his nephew. The latter, Boris, was stabbed in October 1993 by the husband of his sister, who committed suicide after his gesture. The Minister of the Interior was 10 years old.
“My sister is alive, she has rebuilt her life. My father is dead, I think he has somatized (having a physical, organic response to psychological stress, editor’s note) this despicable drama,” added the Beauvau tenant.
Before continuing: “My sister was divorced. Undoubtedly, today she seems to have been the victim of domestic violence, which is absolutely true: she was beaten by her husband, in a divorce that was going extremely badly for her.
“A Desire to Protect Others”
Gérald Darmanin believes that “everyone should have seen that [son] nephew was in danger.” And he considers that this reinforced his desire to enter politics:
“I certainly drew from him a desire to protect others. That is why I do politics in other places (…) I was very young, I was ten years old, but I keep this memory anchored in me, in the consequences it had for family life. “
This is the second time, in a few months, that the former mayor of Tourcoing returns to this event, after having spoken about it in October 2022, on the set of “Face à Baba”, on C8. He had explained that he understood the “devastation” that the death of a child can cause to a family, at the time of young Lola’s death.
