The National Assembly rejected this Monday, by 292 votes against 243, a motion from the LFI that called for the rejection of the entire pension reform, at the opening of debates on the government project.
In support of the motion, the leader of the rebel group Mathilde Panot had criticized a project that “aggravates the chaos” for the French who already face many difficulties. Elected officials from Nupes and RN contributed their votes, but not those from LR.
A referendum motion from the RN group is due for a vote in the afternoon.
“We are not in an amphitheatre”
Since the beginning of the session, other opposition parliamentarians in turn demanded that their own referendum request, presented in extremis, also be presented. Charles de Courson, from the independent group Liot, at the initiative of representatives of six political groups, denounced “a denial of democracy”, to which Nupes leaders joined.
The president of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, did not follow up. Then, the oppositions protested loudly, causing a brief interruption of the session.
“Do you think we are going to spend 15 days like this in the chamber?” asked the opposition member Ms. Braun-Pivet. “We are not in an amphitheater, not in a demonstration.”
