Agnès Pannier-Runacher’s bill to speed up renewable energy has finally passed, defying the political turmoil over pension reform. After lengthy consultations and tough negotiations, it was definitively approved by Parliament on Tuesday, in a final vote by the Senate with 300 votes in favor and 13 votes against.
Launch 50 offshore wind projects
In the midst of the energy crisis and under the pressure of global warming, this text intended for France to catch up with its great delay in renewable energy. After having been the subject of a compromise between deputies and senators, it was adopted within a day of mobilization against the pension reform.
It intends to meet the goal set by President Emmanuel Macron for 2050 of multiplying by ten the production capacity of solar energy to exceed 100 GW and deploy 50 offshore wind farms to reach 40 GW.
“Remove the locks” that delay these projects
Its aim is to “remove all the obstacles that delay the deployment of projects”, stressed the Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, who fought hard to win support in the oppositions on the right and left.
“We are the only European country that has not achieved its objectives” in terms of wind and solar energy, he told lawmakers who gave their last green light last week.
The text is divided into large sections: streamlining administrative procedures to reduce project implementation time; accelerate the development of solar energy and offshore wind energy; improve the local acceptability of projects.
