Corsica: a first meeting this Friday in Paris to discuss the future of the island

The debates will focus from 10 am on the “economic and social model” of Corsica before addressing, in the afternoon, the various statutes of autonomy already existing in the Mediterranean.

Gérald Darmanin receives on Friday Place Beauvau a delegation of elected officials to discuss the institutional, economic and social model of Corsica, the first meeting of a cycle of eight “no taboos” meetings dedicated to the future of the island of Beauty. .

The Minister of the Interior, who had promised in March to debate the autonomy of Corsica, had created a strategic committee on the future of the island in July, four months after the deadly prison attack on the Corsican independentist Yvan Colonna, sentenced to life imprisonment for the assassination of Prefect Erignac.

“A significant gap between words and actions”

In a joint press release, the autonomist deputies Jean-Felix Acquaviva and Michel Castellani, the MEP for Ecology François Alfonsi and the autonomist senator Paulu-Santu Parigi lamented that “two files of economic importance relate a significant gap between the speeches and the will exhibited on the one hand, and acts of legislative and regulatory scope on the other”.

As for the price of fuel, they lament that “the 30-cent state discount” negotiated with the Total group, “creates a serious distortion of competition, helping to bring small and medium-sized independent groups in the territories to their knees, including the Ferrandi in Corsica, with the risk of losing 150 jobs”.

As for “the application of the Corsican investment tax credit (CIIC), extended until 2023”, they regret that the State has “significantly reduced the possibility” of obtaining it. “This new reading hits the island’s hotel industry hard, which is essentially family-oriented,” they say.

They will expose these two files “as a priority on the table tomorrow in Beauvau”, pending “operational responses”.

The consultation cycle should extend over a year, with a meeting every six weeks. The second meeting will be dedicated to “financial speculation, urban planning and housing” and the third, scheduled “before the end of 2022”, to “the Corsican language and culture”, announced Gérald Darmanin.

For each theme, it is planned to list the various statutes in force in the neighboring countries and evoke the possible “evolutions” that can be brought to the Corsican statute.
