How to choose a gift for a king? Emmanuel Macron has decided. The president announced on Friday that he would travel to London on Sunday to meet with King Charles III the day before Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. He also revealed the gift that France was going to make to the new sovereign.
It is a photo album of “successive visits” of Queen Elizabeth and her son to France, said on the sidelines of a trip to Creuse, as part of Heritage Days.
“I thought that there was already a long histoire of visits from the State and visits from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles pendant for decades and I thought that for the king, this is important to see”, declared the President.
“It is not a prize gift but a very sober” and “symbolic” gift, commented the specialist of the crowned head Stéphane Bern, who accompanied the president on his trip.
In June, for the queen’s platinum jubilee, Emmanuel Macron offered Elizabeth II one of the 470 horses of the Republican Guard cavalry regiment. She was known for her love of horses.
Official invitation
The president also announced today that he has invited the new British sovereign to France, “but things will happen in due course”, when “it is appropriate for him”, he added.
Queen Elizabeth made her first official trip to France in 1957 at the invitation of President René Coty. She went there several times during her reign and her last visit was in 2014. She then went to Normandy as part of the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Charles III also visited France several times when he was still a prince.
“The bond between France and the UK is unbreakable. We will continue to weave it, following the path traced by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, ”Emmanuel Macron assured this Thursday in a tweet.
