The first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure obtained this Thursday night the “absolute majority” in the party’s national council, with at least 155 seats out of 306, after the results of the elections for the first federal secretaries, the last phase of the Congress. , announced his entourage. . This ends the internal battle that plagued the party in January.
Olivier Faure was re-elected at the end of January at the head of the PS, after a bitter battle with his rival the mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, but the latter, who had become first deputy secretary, claimed that Olivier Faure did not have a majority within of the party authorities.
To find out which of the two had the majority in the national council (a kind of party parliament), it was necessary to wait for the elections of the first secretaries of each federation, who represent a third of the composition of the national council.
The national council has a total of 306 seats. Olivier Faure had already acquired 101 after the vote on the guidance texts, on January 12, which had placed him in the lead (49.15%).
defeat in Paris
The elections for the first federal secretaries began on February 2 and will last until February 25, but already, Olivier Faure’s entourage indicates that, in view of the results of Thursday night, he is “sure to have a majority in the National Council tonight and more widely in the coming days”.
Of the 14 elections that were held on Thursday night, “at least 8” were won by Olivier Faure and are added “to the 46 already won” by the first secretary since the start of the federal elections.
But the first secretary failed to win the Paris Federation. His candidate, Emma Rafowicz, bowed to former deputy Lamia El Aaraje who won by a wide margin (60.1%). This closeness to Nicolás Mayer-Rossignol and Anne Hidalgo allows the mayor of Paris to maintain control of this federation. She replaces Senator David Assouline, who had decided to leave the hand.
