Retirement: Fabien Roussel (PCF) calls on the left to “be inspired” by inter-union unity

Unlike the Insoumis, the ecologists or communists chose to withdraw their proposals hoping, without success, to be able to arrive in time to examine article 7, which postpones the legal age of departure to 64 years.

The national secretary of the Communist Party, Fabien Roussel, called this Sunday for the left to “be inspired” by inter-union unity, after having shown disagreements about the strategy to be carried out in the Assembly against the pension reform.

“The topic of the moment is (…) how this inter-union made up of very different unions inspires us and that manages to speak with the same voice, be united, without having to create a Nupes of the unions. This inspires me a lot and I think that the left should be inspired by it”, pleaded Mr. Roussel on the set of Domingo en política, on France 3.

“The inter-union unity obliges us. It obliges us to be united and move forward together”, insisted Fabien Roussel.

The Nupes left-wing alliance was divided in the Assembly on the convenience of maintaining, or not, the thousands of amendments presented to the pension reform text.

“We have disagreements”

Unlike the Insoumis, the ecologists or communists chose to withdraw their proposals hoping, without success, to be able to arrive in time to examine article 7, which postpones the legal age of departure to 64 years.

“I regret this step aside taken by some Insoumis deputies”, stressed M. Roussel, who would have liked “for us to have this debate and this vote” on article 7.

“The French could have seen what their deputy voted or did not vote for,” he argued.

Asked about a possible questioning of the alliance, Fabien Roussel said he did not want to add “a cog in the dividing machine.”

“Nous avons des différences, nous avons des désaccords” mais “nous allons continuer de nous battre ensemble contre la réforme des retraites”, at-il assuré, renvoyant notamment à “l’exceptionnelle mobilization à venir dans la rue” du 7 march.
