Funeral of Elizabeth II, UN General Assembly… Emmanuel Macron’s busy international agenda

Monday will be a particularly long day for the President of the Republic, who is expected in New York at the end of the day after the Queen’s funeral in London.

The next few days should not be easy for Emmanuel Macron. The President of the Republic announced it this Friday: he will arrive in London on Sunday night, at the invitation of King Carlos III.

Precisely, the head of state will participate in a dinner in Buckingham, which will precede Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday… the day on which Emmanuel Macron is also expected in New York, for the first United Nations General Assembly since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

Therefore, a perfectly millimeter program is proposed to ensure that everything fits into the agenda of the Head of State.

Therefore, this Monday, Emmanuel Macron, like hundreds of other leaders, will be present at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth. These will begin at 11:00 a.m. London time and end at 7:30 p.m. for the burial of the monarch, during a ceremony reserved only for members of the royal family.

two days in one

It is at this time that the French president will sneak off to catch a flight to New York, where he is expected to have dinner with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Together they should discuss many issues, including the conflict in Ukraine and the COP27 environmental summit, which will open in Egypt in early November.

This is where the time difference should work in your favor: the five hours less between New York and London will allow you to arrive at the opening of the UN summit in the middle of the afternoon and continue your (very) long day.

According to Elysée, Emmanuel Macron will remain in the United States until Wednesday, September 21. He will spend Tuesday morning’s meeting with various leaders, before speaking at the podium of the United Nations General Assembly, his first speech in the UN hemicycle since he was re-elected.

Until Wednesday, the president must participate in various meetings, in particular on the topic of the issue of food safety. He will participate in the replenishment conference of the Global Fund on the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. His return on Wednesday will therefore postpone the weekly Council of Ministers.
