Pensions: Bruno Retailleau wants to “vote” the reform, but “after having modified it”

The president of the Republican group in the Senate explains that he first wants to make changes to the reform, specifically in the situation of mothers.

“This reform is necessary but it is not enough,” he declares, in an interview with Parisian appeared on Saturday night, the head of the Les Républicains group in the Senate, Bruno Retailleau. Three days after the arrival of the text in the Senate, he indicates that he “wants to vote” on the pension reform but “after having modified it.”

The Vendée senator advances “two demands from his field”: on the one hand, “we must not widen the deficits but manage to fill them.” On the other hand, he calls for “attacking the root of the problem: the demographic imbalance and therefore the situation of mothers” and wants to “carry out an ambitious pro-natalist policy for France.”

On special regimes, a “too timid” reform

“We intend to offer the government two options: either a 5% surcharge for mothers who have reached the legal age and full career, or an early departure at 63,” explained Bruno Retailleau.

He also mentioned the idea of an “end-of-career contract that would be exempt from family contributions” for employees aged at least 60, in order to facilitate hiring in the final years before retirement.

Bruno Retailleau also qualifies the part of the reform of the special regimes as “too timid” while for him “the special regimes are flagrant cases of injustice”. He explains that he wants to “accelerate the convergence of the special regimes on the general regime from 2025, while the Government has not included in the text any date for this alignment.”

“I hope that the Senate can enrich” the text on the pension reform, Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday from the agricultural fair. “I saw (that) the Senate wanted to advance family policy and women’s rights. I believe that the government will approach (this debate) with openness and willingness to commit to building a majority behind this text”, continued the Head of State. .
