The spokesperson for motion E at the BE national convention, Pedro Soares, set this Monday as his goal to halt the party’s path of “loss of political, social and electoral influence” through a change of course.
At a press conference at BE headquarters in Lisbon, Pedro Soares, former BE deputy, presented the general lines of the motion entitled “A multi-block for a left alternative – a challenge we can win” – which as one of his representatives the has history of the UDP Mário Tomé – a motion that will be contested in the National Convention with that led by deputy Mariana Mortágua.
“Motion E, an E of hope also in the possibility that this convention will trigger a change of course for the bloc. Much has been said about continuity. We want to stop this path of loss of the bloc’s political, social, electoral influence. It is essential that there will be a change of course”defended.
When asked who will be the face that will lead the candidacy for this motion – which brings together about 400 registrants – Pedro Soares explained that this motion will present a list to the National Council, emphasizing that “the figure of the coordinator is not exists in the statutes”.
The spokesperson for motion E said that the question of a possible coordinator “is not at issue at this convention” and that he will be elected later, explaining that this platform defends “a system of spokespersons” that existed in the past in the party.
Pedro Soares defended that it is crucial that, “with humility, the mistakes of the political orientation of the BE are recognized in recent times”, as it is symptomatic that the current leadership’s motion “does not leave any mark on the balance sheet of the electoral cycle and the political cycle”.
“If you don’t do this, you don’t take the country seriously. People need to realize that BE recognizes its mistakes,” he criticized, demanding a balance sheet, but not to “cut off heads,” he said, pointing out that it the purpose of these critics of the leadership is to debate and talk about politics.
Pedro Soares criticized the fact that at the entrance to the convention there is mention of “the appearance of successors to Catarina Martins” – to whom he left a “word of recognition” for her commitment – that he was “deeply concerned that there are sectors within the bloc erasing the discussion policy”.
