The case, which dates back to 2012, is at the center of the film La syndicaliste with Isabelle Hupert, directed by Jean-Paul Salomé and adapted from a book-investigation by L’Obs journalist Caroline Michel-Aguirre, which is being released Wednesday in theaters.
Their advance by the Insoumi led them to launch this request for a commission of inquiry.
“Take advantage urgently”
Isabelle Hupert plays the role of Maureen Kearney, a former trade unionist for the former French nuclear flagship Areva, who opposed a deal between the group, EDF and a Chinese nuclear operator that allowed for the transfer of technology to China.
“We very solemnly ask the president of the National Assembly to urgently attend to this request for a commission of inquiry,” the leader of the Insoumis deputies, Mathilde Panot, told reporters.
Maureen Kearney was found in December 2012 at her home, tied to a chair, with a knife handle inserted into her vagina and a scarred “A” on her stomach. She had been found guilty in the first instance of having carried out this attack, linked according to her to her union struggle, before being acquitted on appeal in 2018.
“A possible state scandal”
“This is the story of a possible state scandal,” MP Clementine Autain said on Tuesday. “Little by little, the gendarmerie and the justice system transform the victim into the culprit,” she said, wondering about possible “pressure.”
The request for a commission of inquiry also relates to a case involving a former Veolia executive, who allegedly suffered threats and whose wife was allegedly attacked in her home.
“Emmanuel Petit was fired after opposing the intermediary Alexandre Djouhri”, who “would have claimed a share in a file to create a Veolia subsidiary in the Middle East”, writes LFI in the text of its request.
The Insoumi demand that the stages of the proceedings in these two cases be examined, in particular the “choice of the prosecution not to prosecute”, as well as the role of political leaders and intelligence services.
For the investigation commission to see the light, the LFI request will have to be supported by a majority of deputies in the Assembly, which at the moment seems unlikely.
