“Here is the Republic, not the ZAD”: Attal opens the debate on pensions in the Senate and mocks the Assembly

The Senate began this Thursday in session the examination of the pension reform project. After stormy discussions in the National Assembly, Public Accounts Minister Gabriel Attal said he was convinced the debate would be more peaceful in the upper chamber, mocking the Palais-Bourbon in the process.

After an electric sequence in the National Assembly, where discussions stalled between opposition amendments and government intransigence, the pension reform bill landed in the Senate.

This Thursday, in fact, marked the beginning of the examination of the text in session at the Luxembourg Palace. The opportunity for Gabriel Attal, Minister of Public Accounts, to play the upper house against the lower house, and express his conviction to reach a “compromise” thanks to the former.

“I know that here, beyond the political differences, we listen to each other, I know that here, beyond the fundamental opposition, we debate. I know that here, regardless of each other’s background, we respect each other. I know that there is no ZAD here, only the Republic remains ”, thus launched Gabriel Attal in his introductory words, in a clear allusion to the opposition in the National Assembly, and especially in Nupes.

He went on to flatter his audience in the Senate and overwhelm the Palais-Bourbon:

“I would feel, then, tempted to hope that after the noise and the obstruction of the extremes, the time of wisdom and reason will open up.”

“I would like to ask one question, and only one. Of the 100 hours of debate in the Assembly and in committee and in the hemicycle, that is, more time than for the previous reforms, what good has been done for the French from the point From the point of view of the very people who assumed the monopoly of his defense and who did everything to delay the debates? He pretended to wonder and added:

“The French made a decision, and they didn’t wait for us.”

Previously, the Minister of Public Accounts had exposed the intentions of the government to which he belongs as follows: “We come before you with a simple objective: to build a clear commitment for the retirement of the French.”

“Our objective is to find a compromise at the end of our discussions to pay the pensions of the French, without taxes in addition or pension in less”, he still raised.
