Costa admits the Algarve has infrastructure problems that need to be solved

The Prime Minister, António Costa, admitted on Thursday that the Algarve “still has some infrastructure problems” that need to be resolved through joint work by the government, regional entities and municipalities.

“These are issues related to accessibility, to the health system and what we need to focus on in order to work”said the head of government, recalling that community funds “will provide rare opportunities for the development of the region”.

During the intervention marking the inauguration of the Exhibition Center of Fortaleza de Sagres, in the Algarve, the Prime Minister pointed out the opportunities for the next Community Support Frameworks, “fruit of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the negotiations for Portugal (NL) 2030”.

These are support measures that will provide the Algarve with “significantly more resources in the coming years than in the past seven years”, he noted.

“To be aware of the 318 million euros of Portugal 2020, at the moment in the PRR alone, 283 million euros have been contracted in the Algarve, in the areas of health, infrastructure, capitalization and business innovation”marked.

In the PT2030 community framework, he added, “The Algarve will receive €780 million”, a “doubling of community funds” over the past seven years.

The government spent two days in the Algarve, where the prime minister, ministers and secretaries of state took part in about 60 initiatives, with the weekly council of ministers meeting on Thursday morning.

António Costa added that in the work carried out under the series of actions, the government had “a very clear understanding that there is an important challenge to be developed in terms of land use planning, the protection of natural resources and the need to better conditions for those who want to live and work in the Algarve”.

António Costa, accompanied by the Ministers of Culture, Territorial Cohesion and Science, Technology and Higher Education, ended this Thursday the two-day program of the “Closer Government” initiative in the district of Faro, with the inauguration of the Fortress of Sagres exhibition center, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, referring to the discoveries and Portuguese expansion.

The center is housed in a building in the Sagres Fortress, the result of a global investment of €3.1 million, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Cresc Algarve 2020 programme, and with funds from PIPITAL (compensation for the gambling concession managed by Turismo de Portugal).

António Costa felt that “it would be hard to find a more inspiring place to embark on this adventure of years to come”.

“If it is possible from here to imagine that we have left for the world, it is not difficult to imagine that we can leave to complete the execution of PT2020, execute the PRR and PT2030, which After all, it’s much easier to get here than on the other side”he concluded.
