Pension reform: Dussopt guarantees a revaluation for “1.8 million pensioners” in September

The Minister of Labor defends an “urgent reform to balance the system” and affirms that “there will be no losers” in this profound change that the Government intends to initiate.

It is a “fairer reform” that the Minister of Labor defends this Saturday in the columns of the Parisian, three days before the interprofessional mobilization against the postponement of the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 years and that promises to be massive. “This reform is necessary and urgent for the balance of the system in 2030,” insists Olivier Dussopt, who has supported the text – much discussed – since Thursday in the Senate.

In his argument, the minister says that “almost 1.8 million current retirees will see their pension increased in September. This will rise to 100 euros a month (…) This does not enrich them. But it’s a substantial effort, it never materialized despite commitments over 20 years.”

“There are no losers in this reform”

And to add: “There will be no losers in this reform. Because pensions will not go down.”

Faced with these profound changes that the government wants to initiate, Olivier Dussopt -a defector from the Socialist Party (PS)- argues that the review of the pension system is “a left-wing reform, which could have been carried out by a socialist group”. democratic government. Compared to previous reforms, it creates rights that we were not aware of, particularly regarding hardships and caregivers.”

Therefore, the Government remains confident in this reform while, this Saturday, the main unions once again expressed their firm opposition to the project. “If Emmanuel Macron does not want a stagnant France and a black week in energy, he would do better to withdraw the reform from him,” Sébastien Ménesplier, general secretary of CGT Energie, told AFP.

“In a period with inflation, energy crisis and the end of the pandemic, the blockade is not the correct solution. I have heard a certain number of expressions, not from the inter-union but from some federations of the CGT in Transport and Energy say, before the applause from Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who wanted to put the economy to the ground. We can have an opposition, but the blockade is not a solution for the country”, repeated Olivier Dussopt.

On Tuesday, March 7, the intelligence services expect between 1.1 and 1.4 million protesters throughout France.
