With the resignation of TAP managers, the government wants to “shake the water out of the capote”, Montenegro accuses

“By firing the chairman and CEO of TAP, the government in fact wants to shake off the water from the capote. It wants to look for scapegoats for its own political responsibility, namely the Minister of Finance”. This is how the leader of the PSD responds to the government’s decision to fire TAP’s executive chairman, Christine Ourmières-Widener, and the company’s chairman, Manuel Beja, following the report of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF ), known this Monday fair.

Luís Montenegro believes that Finance Minister Fernando Medina “must not forget that he signed the order to appoint engineer Alexandra Reis to NAV”. “It was he who invited her to become secretary of state for finance in his own ministry,” the Social Democratic leader emphasized tonight in Vila Nova de Gaia.

“The decisions taken during this process are not indifferent to the minister who essentially hired her,” Montenegro said, referring to Alexandra Reis who will now repay a large portion of the value of the controversial €500,000 compensation. , paid by TAP, upon the carrier’s departure in February 2022. An agreement that the IGF deemed “null and void”. The former administrator will have to repay a total of 450,110.26 euros of the compensation paid to it by TAP, according to the IGF audit report.

“If Fernando Medina had not invited Alexandra Reis to become Secretary of State for Finance, this whole plot might not even be widely known,” said the PSD president.

For the leader of the Social Democrats “it is important to assess whether in the last years of TAP’s management, namely since it has been public, there have been more situations, what they are, who decided on them and, of course, who were the guards who ultimately agree with these decisions”.
