A request that will probably remain a dead letter. After a day of historic mobilization against the pension reform on Tuesday, the inter-union demanded to be “received urgently” by Emmanuel Macron.
“The silence of the President of the Republic constitutes a serious democratic problem,” denounced in a press release the union front, united against retirement at 64 years of age.
Dialogue broken in September
The dialogue has been broken for months between the Élysée and the power stations. However, since his re-election, Emmanuel Macron has tried to resume the discussions, after a first term of five years considered far from the intermediate bodies.
Thus, last June a working lunch was organized to discuss future projects, including pension reform. With some success: only Philippe Martinez shies away from the exercise.
But in September, the tone rises as the government works on unemployment compensation reform. Only the CFDT, the CFTC and the UNSA decided to participate in the launch meeting of the National Refoundation Council, in which, however, the president relied heavily.
Negotiations on pensions “already tied up”
Matignon then tries to regain control by launching a round of consultations on pension reform in the fall, without convincing.
“They receive us but everything is already tied up. We already warned that if we reached the age of 64 it would get stuck”, explains Philippe Martinez on BFMTV.
In January, he does it again with an appointment with Elisabeth Borne, a few days before the press conference that reveals the main lines of the bill.
“The reform, as it is proposed now, will create many social conflicts,” Laurent Berger warns journalists.
A “call to responsibility” that does not pass
Since then, the dialogue seems completely broken. Emmanuel Macron’s call for the “responsibility” of the unions on the eve of a day of mobilization in February went very wrong. “Damn it, aren’t we responsible from the beginning? Are we not doing the job? Frankly!”, The number 1 of the CFDT was annoyed in france news.
Emmanuel Macron, relatively discreet since the start of the dispute, gave his vision of the reform during the agricultural fair. Questioned on numerous occasions, he judged that there was “only one solution: work more.”
