LFI deputies assume “handling” on the handling of gender or sexual violence

The deputy Clémentine Autain assured that “nobody” had hesitated about the withdrawal of Adrien Quatennens, investigated after a complaint of domestic violence.

The LFI deputies defended themselves before the press on Tuesday for having “procrastinated” the withdrawal of their colleague Adrien Quatennens for domestic violence, while admitting “fiddles” even in the face of the management of cases of gender violence within the movement.

“No one hesitated to say that Adrien Quatennens should be put on hold,” said LFI MP Clémentine Autain.

She was questioned about the fact that Jean-Luc Mélenchon had reiterated his “trust” in the young deputy on Sunday, which sparked internal criticism.

Mechanisms still imperfect

To manage cases of gender-based violence, “we are trying to put in place mechanisms, it is not perfect”, the deputy admitted, during the back-to-school press conference of her political group in the Assembly, considering it necessary “to work more on these themes and perhaps cross-cutting”.

Clémentine Autain, however, considered that it was necessary to recognize the “complexity” of such situations, demanding respect for the presumption of innocence of the accused, to take into account the difficulty on a human level of dealing with the case of the “companions”. or even respect for the victims.

She also raised the limits of “total transparency”, in reference to the declarations of the veille de la députée écologiste Sandrine Rousseau, disant avoir reçu une femme accusant le secrétaire national d’EELV Julien Bayou de “comportements de nature à briser la santé morale women”.

“When I heard yesterday Sandrine Rousseau (say) for example that Julien Bayou’s former partner whom she herself received (…) made a suicide attempt, I don’t know if this woman wanted all of France to know that she attempted to suicide,” he said.

Mandatory training for deputies

“Yes, we assume that we are groping, which is a difficult question,” said LFI deputy Danièle Obono, also questioned about her movement’s management of cases of gender or sexual violence. “We assume to have flaws, not to have a perfect protocol.”

Danièle Obono stressed that the LFI deputies were going to attend a “mandatory” training on sexual and gender violence during their parliamentary sessions scheduled for Thursday and Friday to prepare for the start of the legislature.

Figure of the young guard of La France insoumise (LFI), deputy Adrien Quatennens, investigated after a complaint filed for domestic violence, announced on Sunday that he was “retiring from his role as coordinator” of the movement, acknowledging the violence against his wife. .
