“To work”. A word that Fabien Roussel has been repeating on all airwaves for a few weeks. His interview with BFMTV-RMC on Tuesday was no exception. “The question of the meaning we give to work […] it is the most beautiful of the projects that the left must build”, declares the general secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF).
“How do you explain that today there are 5 million people looking for work and companies that tell you ‘we are missing, we are not hiring’ […] and 800,000 people who quit their jobs after the pandemic because they were no longer in what they were doing?” asked Fabien Roussel.
According to him, it is “possible to guarantee everyone a job for life”. The communist thus advocates that “jobs be filled taking into account the ecological revolution, the lengthening of life” or even “the information and technology revolution”.
Fabien Roussel denies opposing “workers” and “unemployed”
On September 10, on the sidelines of the Fête de l’Humanité, Fabien Roussel provoked criticism from his colleagues in the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) by confronting the “profit left” and the “work” left. Asked about it on BFMTV, the deputy from the North mentioned these “people from his constituency”, who are “damaged by unemployment, screwed by years of surviving [avec] the RSA (Active Solidarity Income, editor’s note)”.
An allowance that the leader of the communists described as a “minimum income to supposedly fight against poverty but [qui]in fact, it installs poverty in our country and that opposes the unemployed and the workers”.
“I’m not against them,” Fabien Roussel calmly defended.
“I want to create this new public employment service that allows everyone to get out of unemployment, from the RSA, have a job and get training,” he justified then, refusing to see this measure as a similar device in the employment center.
