“It is not up to us to do justice”: in cases of violence against women, Fabien Roussel rejects the role of “prosecutor”

According to the head of the communists, politicians must be “irreproachable” about acts of violence against women. He calls for “fast and specialized” justice so that party leaders are not “prosecutors.”

“All sexist, sexual violence against women […] they are intolerable”. On BFMTV, Fabien Roussel seemed serious. Since last week, a topic has been on everyone’s lips: the interrogation of Adrien Quatennens, targeted by a handrail by his wife, Céline Quatennens, for facts. An investigation has been opened in this direction of the Lille prosecutor’s office against the rebellious deputy from the north, for “spousal violence”.

This has “no place in our society”, according to Fabien Roussel and “even less”, for political leaders who must “be irreproachable” on these issues, he specifies. The general secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF) also advocates that the word be “first in the direction of the victims”.

This Sunday, the leader of rebel France Jean-Luc Mélenchon aroused an outcry by initially saluting the “courage” and “dignity” of Adrien Quattennens when he had announced a little earlier in a press release that he was retiring from his duties as coordinator of insubordinate France. (LFI). In that same document, the elected official evoked acts related to domestic violence, trusting in particular that she had “slapped” Céline Quatennens.

“An event dated a year ago,” he said.

“Common Rules”

Since then, various members of the France insubordinate have distanced themselves. “These are his words, not mine”, for example he declared in the parisian Clémentine Autain MP LFI in Seine-Saint-Denis. She while she calls her own not to “lose the thread of [leurs] fundamental commitments.

“I’m not going to argue about the reactions of the reactions,” Fabien Roussel was content to answer.

According to the communist deputy from the North, it is necessary to put in place “common rules” to “know how we take the floor and how, behind the scenes, we act.” The former presidential candidate wonders: “If all this were made public like Sandrine Rousseau did, I have a doubt about it.” The day before, the environmentalist deputy revealed on France 5 that she had received Julien Bayou’s ex-partner and that she had been the victim of “behavior likely to undermine the moral health of women.”

“The leaders of the parties ask us to be the prosecutors”

If he underlines the “extraordinary movement” #MeToo, which has “liberated the voice of women”, Fabien Roussel also highlights a “real difficulty”. Today, “we have to make decisions about exclusions, resignations, withdrawal of responsibilities […] and we are not justice”.

And to insist: “The leaders of the party ask us to be the prosecutors and to judge. It is not up to us to do so.” [mais] to justice.”

Fabien Roussel thus calls for “fast and specialized justice”.
