Summer CEmp receives applications through Friday

From 30 August to 2 September, Summer CEmp – the summer school of the European Commission in Portugal – once again focuses on Europe (and European affairs). Registration for higher education students up to the age of 30 is possible until Friday.

This year’s edition – the sixth – will take place in Ponte da Barca, in the district of Viana do Castelo. Since the first time, Summer CEmp has toured the country from north to south, from the village of Monsanto (Castelo Branco district) to Alcoutim (in the Algarve) and in 2022 it went to Ribeira Grande, in the Azores.

The mayor of Ponte da Barca, Augusto Marinho, quoted in a statement, speaks of “huge pleasure” in hosting the event. “It helps to strengthen the European identity of the participating young people while promoting cultural diversity and social inclusion. It is an opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences and good practices between young people,” he says.

The representative of the European Commission in Portugal, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, calls for participation: “We want to encourage the participation of young people in this process of building the European project that belongs to all. This year we are going to the north of the country to debate with the people of Minho about the Europe we want and how we can achieve it.”

In addition to the dimension of discussion and contact with European issues and themes, Summer CEmp also aims to stimulate interaction between the local community and the participants.
