Try to see the glass half full. After just 55 minutes of discussion, the inter-union left the discussion table with Élisabeth Borne, declaring “a failure”. Elisabeth Borne wants to be more positive.
Despite “a disagreement on the age” of retirement with the inter-union, “I do not intend to go ahead without the social partners”, launched the prime minister from the Matignon court.
“A Respectful Exchange”
The tone was quite different in the ranks of the central unions received for the first time by the Prime Minister since the autumn.
“We will not return to the consultation table as if nothing had happened. That is why we ask for the pure and simple withdrawal of this text”, summed up Cyril Chabanier, the head of the CFTC.
The same story on the side of Laurent Berger, the number 1 of the CFDT, who worried about a “social crisis on the way to becoming a democratic crisis.” It was he who ended a meeting for which the Prime Minister had blocked 3 hours on her schedule when she said she did not want to withdraw the reform.
Elisabeth Borne, for her part, appreciated “a respectful exchange where everyone was able to express themselves and listen to each other”.
The inter-union will meet at the FO premises in Paris on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., at the end of the eleventh day of mobilization, to decide on the follow-up that will be given to the movement against the pension reform.
