The chairman of the PSD expressed “outrage” this Wednesday at the “outrageous abuse of the dominant position of the absolute majority” following what was revealed during the committee of inquiry into the management of TAP, where the CEO of TAP was heard on Tuesday airline , Christine Ourmieres-Widener.
Luís Montenegro spoke in one “great demonstration of the destruction of the trust capital between voters and the government” and in an “instrumental view that the government has of the president of the republic”, who “appears in the eyes of members of the government as a pawn of the PS in service of its agenda”.
He also highlighted “the violation of republican morals and ethics, manifested in secret meetings and theatrical trickery to try to deceive the Portuguese”. For Montenegro, “these are situations of enormous seriousness, which cannot be ignored, either from a political point of view or from an ethical point of view”.
“Lies, deceit, indecency, negligence, promiscuity and dishonesty. These are hallmarks of the government’s behavior,” Montenegro stressed in the TAP case.stating that in yesterday’s committee of inquiry “more lies have come to light”.
The leader of the Social Democrats said that the former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, “didn’t just lie when he said he wasn’t aware of the compensation for engineer Alexandra Reis. He was a cornerstone in deciding the value of the compensation being negotiated. He was always involved in the process but pretend they don’t know anything”.
Montenegro also stressed that it became known that TAP’s CFO had “and continues to have permanent contacts with the Ministry of Finance”, contacts which he says are “on a weekly basis”.
It is “increasingly less credible, I would even say only those who want to believe, that the Ministry of Finance was not aware” of the whole process of compensation of 500 thousand euros paid by TAP to Alexandra Reis.
“More than lying, it was shown that the government and the PS are always determined to deceive the country,” Luís Montenegro accusedasking the Prime Minister to explain the latest developments regarding TAP’s public administration.
The PSD leader goes back in time to recall that after the press conference in which the Minister of Finance and the then Minister of Infrastructure and Housing “asked TAP for clarification, It is the State Secretary for Infrastructure participating in the meeting who will prepare the answers requested by these members of the government.”
“Look at the seriousness of the situation: two ministers tell the country that they are not aware of the contours of the situation and will ask for clarification and then it is a state secretary of one of those ministers who literally delivered the clarifications that were asked,” he said.
Then he spoke of “indecent” to say that the Government has “no respect whatsoever for the CEO of TAP”.
He also refers to the request made by Finance Minister Fernando Medina to the Executive President to resign and the announcement, the next day, by the same minister of the resignation of TAP’s CEO. “This points to a pattern of behavior that is not worthy of a good government, a government in good faithMontenegro accused, speaking of a “humiliation” regarding the nobility of political action and government action”.
