The dissolution of Brav-M will not be debated at the Palais-Bourbon. Published on March 23 on the website of the National Assembly, the request for the dissolution of the Motorized Brigade for the Repression of Violent Action (Brav-M) was presented by the justice commission. The commission “decided to close this petition in its session on April 5, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.,” it can be read on the Assembly’s website. This Wednesday afternoon, about 264,000 people had signed the text.
“Brigade created in March 2019 at the request of the prefect Lallement to muzzle the movement of the yellow vests, it has become one of the symbols of police violence,” the authors of the petition estimate. “Far from guaranteeing a return to appeasement, his action contributes to the increase in tensions, including against the police.”
Éric Poulliat, a Renaissance deputy appointed rapporteur, advocated the “qualification” of the petition that called for “stopping the massacre.” “The word ‘massacre’ has a meaning,” the elected official argued to AFP. “There’s no arguing that mobile units are a useful complement to traditional brigades, whose movements are slower.”
“Improper actions by a few agents require strong responses,” he continued, but “improper behavior by a few agents cannot lead to questioning the usefulness of BRAV-Ms.”
the raging rebels
The day after the publication of the petition, The world and Loopsider reported an audio recording of Brav-M police officers insulting and threatening young anti-pension reform protesters in Paris on March 20. Police prefect Laurent Nuñez then announced the seizure of the IGPN (General Inspectorate of the National Police).
The Brav-M has also been the object of much criticism from the opposition since the beginning of the mobilization against the reform, the Insoumis are also calling for its dissolution. After the announcement of the presentation of the petition, the deputy of the North and the security man of LFI Ugo Bernalicis denounced a “scandal”. “The final figure is 263,887 signatories in 13 days! The 500,000 were widely achievable, but with their maneuver they did not want a debate in the hemicycle. They are dirtying democracy.”
In the process, Ugo Bernalicis called a rally for the dissolution of Brav-M this Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Paris.
