The prime minister on Tuesday deemed it important to await the end of the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the management of TAP to withdraw any political ramifications and stressed that each sovereign body has its own time.
António Costa took this position at the end of a visit to the South Korean multinational SK Hynix, a group that is the third largest producer of semiconductors in the world, at the end of which, in front of journalists, he refused to speak in depth about TAP , or to the statements of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on the same subject.
“As a rule, I do not comment on the words of the President of the Republic, much less if I have not heard them. As you know, when the President of the Republic spoke [na segunda-feira, em Murça]I flew to South Korea”he claimed.
Asked about the political consequences he will draw from what happened in the parliamentary committee of inquiry, the prime minister replied: “We will draw the political consequences depending on the results”.
“Each sovereign body must have its own time. At the moment, the time is that of the Assembly of the Republic. We must respect a work that is being developed,” the executive leader claimed.
Sided by the Ministers of Economy, António Costa, of Science and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, and of Infrastructure, João Galamba, the Prime Minister added that the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the management of TAP will hold several more hearings.
“Ultimately you draw conclusions. As a result, we [Governo]we will act accordingly,” he stressed.
In the statements he made to journalists, the Prime Minister absolutely rejected that the cases of internal politics could damage Portugal’s image abroad, as they cast doubts among investors.
“Undoubtedly,” he replied.
According to António Costa, “all foreign countries recognize fundamental facts in Portugal”.
“We are the fifth safest country in the world, one of the countries with the greatest policy stability over the years, we have a highly qualified workforce and one of the first countries to invest in renewable energy. We are the only country in Europe to is currently operating a submarine fiber optic cable connection to all continents and we have numerous opportunities to attract investment,” he added.
