Insubordinate France closes ranks. “Everyone in the group agrees that Adrien Quatennens should not resign” from his mandate as deputy, says Mathilde Panot, leader of the rebel deputies in the National Assembly, in BFMTVM.
Targeted by a handrail from his wife and an investigation by the Lille prosecutor’s office for “spousal violence”, Adrien Quatennens announced that he was “retiring” from his duties as coordinator of La France insoumise. “It’s nothing,” said Mathilde Panot.
And the deputy from Val-de-Marne insisted: “I challenge you to find a single movement or party that has done the same.”
Before several journalists in the National Assembly, the deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône Manuel Bompard had already estimated on Wednesday that this decision was “sufficient”.
“I weigh my words”
When he acknowledged violent gestures towards his wife in a press release on Sunday, Adrien Quatennens drew mixed reactions in his field. On the one hand, those who gave him unconditional support: like chef Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who praised his “courage” and his “dignity”; and others, who, on the contrary, distanced themselves from the words of the rebel leader.
The MP for Dordogne Pascal Martin thus denounced in a press release “tweets that reveal a minimization of the acts committed and a lack of knowledge of the reality of domestic violence.” Jean-Luc Mélenchon stood firm on his boots despite the distance covered on his own pitch.
“I weigh my words all the time,” so the rebellious face repeated to journalists this Thursday in front of the National Assembly.
