Anne Hidalgo supports a “third way” in the PS congress

Little in sight since her defeat in the presidential elections, Anne Hidalgo supports with her relatives the constitution of a “third way” in the PS congress to avoid a duel between Olivier Faure and Hélène Geoffroy.

Falling behind since her defeat in the presidential election of 1.7%, Anne Hidalgo is preparing with her family a “contribution for the next congress” of the Socialist Party (PS), according to the JDD. This will take place this winter.

On the way to take or keep the queens of the party: the current First Secretary of the Roses, Olivier Faure, great architect of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes); and the one who was already his opponent in the last congress last year, Hélène Geoffroy, mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône) and staunch opponent of the leftist coalition.

Anne Hidalgo could contribute to the constitution of a “third way”, called “Refoundations!”. Around the mayor of Paris we find several important personalities of the PS: Senator David Assouline, who had actively participated in the presidential campaign of the Parisian councillor, Valérie Rabault, leader of the Socialist deputies during the last legislature or even Patrick Kanner , patron saint of the pink senators.

David Assouline explains the objective in the JDD: “Anchor left […] but not under the leadership of the rebels” and thus create “an ecological social perimeter, very Europeanist, therefore contradictory to the line of LFI (La France insoumise, editor’s note)”.

Avoid a duel between Hélène Geoffroy and Olivier Faure

To legitimize the existence of this third way, Lamia El Aaraj, councilor of Paris, explains in The Figaro that “the debate is not the union of the left but to reaffirm the identity of the PS in this meeting”.

“We don’t want to settle for a duel between Hélène Geoffroy and Olivier Faure,” he insists.

Having become a deputy after a by-election in the 15th constituency in 2021 -before this election was canceled in January 2022-, Lamia El Aaraj had stood last June against Danielle Simonnet (LFI), then a Nupes candidate. and elected deputy ever since.

For the rest, the team gathered around “Refoundations!” would like to attract other party executives, according to information from Figaro. In his sights, anti-Nupes like Michaël Delafosse, mayor of Montpellier, or Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region.
