The controversy continues to rise. Since Adrien Quatennens admitted to slapping his wife and relinquishing his role as coordinator of France Insubordinate, various lieutenants of France Insubordinate have come to his defense, starting with Jean-Luc Mélenchon. It is Manuel Bompard’s turn to give his reading grid.
“Adrien Quatennens acknowledged (the facts) and said they were not acceptable. So I don’t minimize them. Then I try to make sense of things. A slap is never acceptable, but a slap is not the same as a man hitting his wife every day,” advances the rebel deputy this Friday on CNEWS.
“A slap is not the same as a person accused of rape”, defends Bompard
To the first media storm linked to Adrien Quatennens, a second was added, after a tweet by Jean-Luc Mélenchon in which he saluted “the dignity and courage” of his lieutenant, before qualifying his statements in a second tweet.
“I weigh my words all the time,” he said, however, on Thursday at the BFMTV microphone.
His words, however, aroused unease within his movement, from Clémentine Autain to Manon Aubry, including Danièle Obono.
“A slap in the face is not the same as a person who is accused of rape after having drugged the people who accuse him. In any case, these are the charges against him, ”adds Manuel Bompard on CNEWS, referring to former minister Damián Abad.
Bompard calls for “nuances”
The former member of Elisabeth Borne’s government has left the executive last july, accused of rape by four women. He is currently being investigated for attempted rape.
“We have to handle these issues with nuances, have principles that we must respect and take into account the words of those who speak about this type of issue,” the LFI elected official still judges.
“Words that minimize actions”, Judge Rousseau
His words shocked the groups of environmentalists, members of Nupes.
“A slap to your spouse is a crime. That’s what you have to move. All these words are words that minimize the acts in the end,” Sandrine Rousseau judged at LCI this Friday.
The EELV deputy had already distanced herself from Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s tweets.
“What you are saying about the slap is also filthy political stupidity. To say you stay and ‘forget’ the system of domination. Come on. Shut up and think,” Raphaëlle Rémy Leleu, an environmental adviser from Paris, told him.
“Shut up now,” says Schiappa
The presidential majority was hardly more tender. Marlène Schiappa, former Secretary of State for Equality between Women and Men, denounces some words that “considerably damage the fight for the protection of women against violence”.
“Are we really going to go back to debating whether hitting a woman is acceptable? Stop!”, indicates Still, who is now in charge of the Social and Solidarity Economy.
“Those who minimize domestic violence legitimize it. They are, therefore, her accomplices ”, analyzes for her part the deputy Renaissance Sacha Houlié, president of the justice commission on her Twitter account.
Adrien Quatennens retires from “parliamentary work”. His resignation is not on the agenda, assured Mathilde Panot, the group’s president in the National Assembly.
