The head of state promised to warn this Thursday if one day he changes his position on the question of the political alternative and the break of the legislature, faced with the declaration of the president of the PSD that he is ready to form a government to be.
“If I have to take a different position from the president on this issue, I will,” declared Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to journalists, at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, which he visited today with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits.
“There are many opinions. The position of the president, who has to decide, is the president,” he added, still on the words of Luís Montenegro.
On Monday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Murça, in the district of Vila Real, again ruled out a dissolution scenario, citing the current situation and also the lack of a political alternative, since “there is no obvious alternative at the moment” .
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa challenged the opposition to turn the sum of the poll numbers into “a reality strong enough for the Portuguese to say: in the future we have this alternative”.
“The PSD assures the country, the Portuguese and also the President of the Republic that it is an alternative government to the PS and that we are ready to take on all the consequences of the alternative when it is appropriate,” said the president of the PSD , Luís Montenegro, Wednesday Monday in Lisbon, in response to the head of state.
Faced with these words today, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa avoided commenting on them: “I said about that, about that subject that you know what it is, which I don’t even mention, I said what I had to say on Monday, and that’s it. So, that’s it, if I ever have anything to say about it and when…”.
The media have asked the president of the republic if he will speak on the subject on Tuesday, the day on which, according to various reports, he will receive the president of the PSD.
“No, no, no. If I have to say another position of the president on this issue, I will,” he replied.
