Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) said this Friday that there was no debt cancellation, which was “paid in full” from the loan to PS deputy Carlos Pereira, who announced his departure from the parliamentary committee of inquiry into TAP this Friday -exchange.
“CGD confirms that there was no debt cancellation as the agreement was made for the amount it deemed legally due at the time”reads a note sent by the public bank.
The financial institution guaranteed that it was “repaid in full” under the agreement for the capital borrowed, with interest added.
“CGD clarifies that the credit arises from the non-compliance of a company declared bankrupt, whose lawsuit was terminated due to insufficient assets, without any payment to creditors”he added, noting that despite banking secrecy, he had permission from Deputy Carlos Pereira to release the information.
The PS coordinator of the TAP Commission of Inquiry, Carlos Pereira, said on Friday that he will leave that parliamentary body to give it the “necessary rest”, ending what he described as a “climate of suspicion”.
The decision follows a news report that the newspaper Correio da Manhã published on Thursday about an alleged cancellation of part (66,000 euros) of a debt owed by Carlos Pereira as a guarantor of a company that went bankrupt in 2015.
