PSD MP calls on deputies to vote for Chega’s candidate for AR vice. Ventura thank you

Chega’s president said he had “high hopes” regarding the possibility that Chega would choose his candidate for vice president of Parliament this Thursday, thanking the PSD and IL for pointing out the votes in favor.

Asked how to understand the appeal of the PSD faction leader for the favorable vote of his deputies for the candidate Rui Paulo Sousa, André Ventura considered it “a sign of normalization” that opens up prospects for understanding of the two parties in 2026, the year of the next legislature. “It is becoming increasingly clear that this normalization is necessary in order to have an alternative,” the deputy said in statements to journalists in the House of Representatives.

André Ventura said he was in contact with the presidents of both the PSD and the IL to ensure a favorable vote, though he denies that there is any prospect of agreement or agreement with the Social Democrats in view of the next legislature.

“There is no understanding, there is no agreement, we would also vote for a PSD candidate. It is merely a sign of institutional respect for the January 30 results. There was no presidential meeting with Luís Montenegro, this path has not yet been trodhe said, noting that the two parties will still hold internal elections before 2026.

The president of Chega believed that, between the votes of Chega, IL and PSD, the party’s candidate could add about a hundred votes, saying that “the unknown is the PS”.

“I heard the leader of the PS group say that he will personally vote against, but he has not committed to the bench vote, as far as we know there is freedom to vote,” he stressed, saying that a few votes of socialist deputies would suffice.

Still, Ventura said “not wanting to throw rockets at the party,” admitting that, since the vote is secret, even PSD and IL deputies are not allowed to follow the indication of a favorable vote.

The leader of Chega’s statements come after hours earlier, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, parliamentary leader of the PSD, called on Social Democratic deputies to vote for Ventura’s party candidate, invoking “parliamentary practice” assigning that position to the four most voted parties.

“In that sense, the management of the House of Representatives calls on the ladies and gentlemen to vote for the candidacy presented in the elections taking place today. [quinta-feira]Joaquim Miranda Sarmento writes, in an email sent to deputies this Thursday, reported by some media and to which Lusa had access.

The chairman of the Social Democratic Bank defends that the PSD “has never made the candidatures of all political forces that found themselves in this situation unfeasible” and that “established parliamentary practice has always given the four most voted parties the opportunity to appoint a deputy to the Vice-Presidency of the Assembly of the Republic”.

Chega will vote this Thursday deputy Rui Paulo Sousa, the third time this party has proposed a candidate for the vice-chairmanship of the Assembly of the Republic, after deputies Diogo Pacheco de Amorim and Gabriel were rejected. the beginning of the legislature.

This candidacy, I must say, has not been a success from the start, since the PS has an absolute majority and, as we know, can make the proposal unfeasible in an autonomous way, without the support of more parties.
