Lacerda Sales is the new chair of the TAP investigative committee

Socialist deputy António Lacerda Sales will take over the chairmanship of the TAP committee of inquiry after the resignation of Jorge Seguro Sanches, the PS group announced on Wednesday.

A note circulated in Parliament mentions that Jorge Seguro Sanches has taken the decision to “resign as Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Political Custody of TAP Management”.

“The PS Parliamentary Group will forward to the President of the Assembly of the Republic the name of Mr. António Lacerda Sales as Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Political Oversight of TAP Management, and thanks in advance for the sense of service and mission with which accepted this challenge that is now presented to him”refers to the PS in the same note.

The PS starts by thanking the outgoing chairman for this “displayed availability to serve the Assembly of the Republic during the presidency” of the Commission of Inquiry, confirms its confidence in Jorge Seguro Sanches and praises the “considered, serious, rigorous, independent and competent way in which he” carried out his duties, as he contributes to the “credibility of the work in progress” .

The Socialist Party also found “the character attack perpetrated by a PPD/PSD parliamentarian” against Jorge Seguro Sanches unacceptable, claiming that it is an attack on his “personal integrity, his honor and his good name” and that he ran in a “determinative way” for the Socialist deputy’s resignation.

On Tuesday, Jorge Seguro Sanches deemed it urgent to reflect on whether he still has “the best conditions” to fulfill his mandate, and asked the vice president to replace him in presiding over the hearing that afternoon .

The discussion and vote on the requirements, as well as the debate on the roster used during the hearings, lasted about an hour and a half before the hearing of Humberto Pedrosa, with more tense moments, culminating in the request of the socialist Jorge Seguro Sanches to be replaced in the works driver’s seat by Vice President Paulo Rios de Oliveira, Deputy PSD.

After criticism from various parties over the application of the shorter schedule for this week’s hearings, the president wanted to share “with everyone” an opportunity he had already opened when he asked for a summary investigation into the leaking of information in documents .

“Trust is an essential element in promoting the common good. The Commission of Inquiry must be able to do its job conscientiously, get to the bottom of it, inspire confidence and not waste time discussing procedures, schedules or form of access to documents and everything we have already done”he said.

For Sanches Insurances, “the role of the chairman of the committee of inquiry must enable him to inspire confidence”.

“What I feel, with the exception of the Members who were kind enough to share their confidence with me, I did not have the necessary consensus for the good work of the committee, the way my role was questioned, in an even inelegant way. way of fulfilling the committee’s mandate makes me question whether I still have the best conditions to do so and I understand that this urgent reflection is needed”warned.

Since only after the deponents have been summoned and informed of the roster, the socialist must be informed of the change of rules to them, the socialist has asked the vice president to replace him in directing the works.

“And I wish you all good work today [terça-feira] I won’t be here anymore. I will attend the Board and Coordinators meeting”he said and then got up to leave the room.

At the beginning of the intervention, Seguro Sanches had proposed a meeting of the Board and Coordinators to analyze this issue after Humberto Pedrosa’s hearing, which ultimately did not take place.
