Commission of Inquiry informs Santos Silva about new leak of information

The chairman of the TAP Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday informed the President of the Assembly of the Republic of a new leak of information from documents held in the Commission’s archives, according to the official letter Lusa had access to.

“We came to inform you that today we have learned through the media of a new public disclosure of contents, documents and elements contained in the documentary archive of this committee”reads the document signed by António Lacerda Sales, addressed to Augusto Santos Silva, whose subject is “reporting a new information leak”.

It concerns information released today by Correio da Manhã, with communication between members of the government regarding the dismissal for just cause of the former executive president of TAP.

The former chairman of the Commission of Inquiry, Jorge Seguro Sanches, had already asked Santos Silva to intervene in a similar case of disclosure of documents sent to the Commission and published in the media, which led to the President of the Assembly of the Republic the an internal investigation.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic has appointed PS deputy Alexandra Leitão, currently chair of the Commission for Transparency and Statute of Deputies, to conduct the summary investigation into possible leaks of information from documents, with a deadline of May 23 ( in a week) to issue the conclusions.

Correio da Manhã (CM) reported today that Finance Minister Fernando Medina wanted the waivers of former TAP Executive Director Christine Ourmières-Widener and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAP Manuel Beja to be handled by the services State judicial authorities with utmost urgency.

The news quotes an email sent by Fernando Medina’s chief of staff to the Secretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, André Moz Caldas, on March 8, two days after the press conference in which the dismissals for just cause also ask that the former presidents are informed of the guilty verdict that same day.

In that communication, the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Finance, Carlos Alberto Domingues, admits, according to the CM, that the last request will be impracticable.
