PS parliamentary party chairman accuses Cavaco of “offensive and anti-democratic language”

The parliamentary leader of the PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias, on Saturday accused the former president of the republic Aníbal Cavaco Silva of using “offensive and anti-democratic language” in the statements he made about the government and the PS.

This is the degradation of politics. In the wake of the abusive behavior of PPD/PSD deputies on TAP’s parliamentary inquiry committee, and of a party chairman seeking to involve the information services in the dispute between political parties, today a personality with many responsibilities adopted an abusive and anti-democratic language, in a clear conquest of the democratic right by the extremist radicals who do not hide the hatred of the PS”, defended Eurico Brilhante Dias in a publication on the social network Facebook.

In a text that never mentions the name of the former Prime Minister of the PSD and the former President of the Republic Aníbal Cavaco Silva, who fiercely criticized the government and the PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias deplores the lack of “respect for a 50-year-old party, with thousands of militants, who has led the country in very challenging contexts for almost eight years, with good results”.

“If all this is a concern for the economic results that are gradually appearing in the life of the Portuguese, then it is even more illegal. We will not forget it,” he concludes.

Former President of the Republic Aníbal Cavaco Silva on Saturday accused the government of being a specialist in “lies and propaganda” and questioned whether “it would be possible for a government to sink so low in terms of political ethics”, referring to TAP.

“It is necessary to save the political debate because it is important in democracy. According to what we see, hear and read, there are two areas in which the socialist government specializes: in lies and in propaganda and tricks,” accused Aníbal Cavaco Silva.

In a speech at the conclusion of the 3rd National Meeting of Social Democratic Mayors (ASD) in Lisbon, attended by PSD leader Luís Montenegro, the former head of state accused the Prime Minister, António Costa, of losing his authority adding that prime ministers sometimes “decide to resign” because of “a flare of conscience”.
