The president of the republic said today that he was “happier” with the implementation of EU funds, but warned that it is necessary to speed up their application as it is a “unique opportunity” given the situation in the world and in Europe .
“I’m happy when I saw a number today. Those EUR 1,900 million reached the final beneficiaries, 30% of the money we have already received and not the EUR 1,700 million, as a few months ago. I was happier. But it will speed up and it must speed uphe claimed.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, speaking in Viana do Castelo, during the celebration of the second anniversary of the Associação Empresarial do Minho (AEMinho), emphasized that the EU funds made available to the country “are an opportunity that can be unique given the changing situation in the world and Europe”.
“It’s very simple. First, it’s about making sure those funds are put to the best possible use.”he stressed, adding that the “purposes of the funds must be shared, explained and adopted”pointing to the examples of the energy transition areas, which will have access to several billions, and green hydrogen.
“You have to know exactly what is going on. Because not only the funds of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, they are the funds for 2030 (…) Good management of funds is not about immediate political success for anyone, for some or for others. is for the country to be successful in the medium and long term. Then if there are side effects that benefit A, B, C or D, they are side effects. They are not main effects,” he said.
