The blockist coordinator, Catarina Martins, said in her farewell speech this Saturday that in BE “generations do not overlap” but “reinforce each other”, recalling the legacy of the party’s founders and João Semedo.
“I am well aware that camaraderie, conviction, candid debate, shoulder-to-shoulder struggle are not celebrated. They are shared, but allow me to tell you today how grateful I am for the privilege of walking with you on these last 11 journeys, years and what is to come,” said Catarina Martins in her last speech as BE coordinator at the XIII National Convention in Lisbon.
Recalling the “tremendous generosity” of Francisco Louçã, who preceded her in leading the party, the BE coordinator also praised Luís Fazenda and Fernando Rosas.
“In different ways they reinvented their intervention in the block and taught us that generations do not overlap or replace each other, generations in BE are strengthened, they are added,” he stressed, also recalling the teachings of the other founder of the BE Miguel Portas.
One of the things Catarina Martins is most proud of, in her words, is the enactment of the law decriminalizing medically assisted death.
“It is not the only legacy he leaves us, far from it, but this particular combination of demand and tolerance is the João Semedo law, and Portugal must thank him for the generosity with which he has devoted himself to this cause as well as to the SNS. to the last of its days,” he said.
