The IL president on Wednesday accused the prime minister and his deputy secretary of state of wanting to “delay the discovery of the truth” regarding SIS’s involvement in the recovery of a computer belonging to the Ministry of Infrastructure.
Speaking to Lusa and SIC on the sidelines of a visit to the Lisbon Book Fair, Rui Rocha stated that “the Prime Minister has already had several opportunities to say exactly what happened that evening. [de 26 de abril]and he argued that “the question of the intervention of the SIS is of particular importance, which has not yet been sufficiently clarified, and also the intervention of, for example, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mendonça Mendes”.
“We have been looking for the truth in this case for more than a month and there are people who are systematically committed to delaying the discovery of the truth,” he charged, wondering why António Costa and António Mendonça Mendes ” 28 times ran away to clarify the Portuguese”.
asked Rui Rocha “why does Mendonça Mendes continue to flee from giving clarification and the Prime Minister continues to flee with him, which justifies this escape from responsibilities and the truth and clarification of the Portuguese, why is this soap being extended”, saying only able to “stop this escape attempt interpret it as hiding something”.
The IL leader recalled that his party had forced the Prime Minister’s Deputy Foreign Minister at the Assembly of the Republic (which was scheduled for June 6) to clarify whether he had indicated to the Infrastructure Minister to contact the Security Information Service (SIS) to retrieve the computer taken by former Ministry Deputy Frederico Pinheiro.
“At that point, Mendonça Mendes will really have to tell the truth. There are only three possibilities here: either João Galamba says that he called Mendonça Mendes that night and did not call, and that is serious because we are talking about a lack of truth in a commission of inquiry, or he called and the content of the conversation is not exactly what João Galamba says, or he called, the content is that and Mendonça Mendes did not share with the Prime Minister what happened, which is also serious” , defended Rui Rocha .
“The prime minister speaks of hours and hours, everything seems to indicate that sometimes we are here with lies, small lies and maybe some small lies,” he criticized.
Regarding the statements made by the President of the Republic, the Liberal leader emphasized that in a note sent to Lusa, the President of the Republic referred to the Prime Minister as the entity “empowered to propose the exemption of any member of the government”.
“I don’t know if this is actually a translation of the idea that the president of the republic no longer believes that the prime minister is running the country,” said Rui Rocha.
The president of IL also pointed out that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa must be “like the Portuguese, not yet realizing what happened, who intervened, under what conditions, with what motives”.
Today, the head of state claimed to have had contacts with “a single official body” about SIS’s intervention in the recovery of a computer taken over from the Ministry of Infrastructure, as it was easy to deduce who it was.
Later, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa clarified to Lusa that it was with the prime minister that he spoke about the incidents in that ministry without, however, naming him.
