The PCP defended this Thursday that the Prime Minister’s responses to the SIS action in recovering a computer from the Ministry of Infrastructure confirm that the information service’s performance “had no legal basis whatsoever”.
“These responses confirm that the action of the SIS in fact had no legal basis at all, because if it had it would have established what was the standard, what was the article, what was law and what was not. It is clear that it was in fact an intervention and an action that was not in accordance with the law,” PCP deputy Paula Santos said in statements to journalists in parliament.
The communist deputy said that António Costa claims the action is legal “because it is said by the general secretary of the SIRP and by the Board of Trustees”, but the answer is not at any time substantiated “by any legal standard, by any article of any law”.
“There is no reference to this issue. And it is serious that the Prime Minister is completely overlooking this issue,” he opined.
Among the answers released to the PSD’s 15 questions, the Prime Minister states that he knew that the SIS was cooperating with the PJ to preserve the integrity of classified documents in the computer taken by Frederico Pinheiro of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
António Costa also argues that the SIS action in recovering a computer from the Ministry of Infrastructure did not involve his consent, nor did it stem from a suggestion by his deputy secretary of state, Mendonça Mendes.
Paula Santos also referred to the party’s proposal on May 24 for the creation of a commission to oversee the SIRP (Information System of the Portuguese Republic), composed of the leaders of the parliamentary groups, to commission. Board of information.
The deputy defended that a “direct inspection by the Assembly of the Republic is necessary”, noting that “during the hearings, which take refuge in state secrecy, it is not currently possible for the Assembly of the Republic to to carry out effective inspection, and that is what we believe should be done”.
“If we ask here whether the inspection model should be changed, that in fact there is this possibility of direct inspection by the Assembly of the Republic that effectively allows this inspection, something that is not possible today, in fact, we believe that this is a matter of the utmost importance,” he concluded.
