The Republic’s Attorney General, Lucília Gago, this Friday justified the delays in the ‘Tutti Frutti’ case with the “lack of resources”, saying that the revelation of the wiretaps is under investigation for breach of legal secrecy.
“It is not a unique case, a very specific situation, which involves a lack of resources, which is why we are here in this domain and [há] a particular attention and response that must be given to overcome the limitations identified,” he told journalists on the sidelines of the X Meeting of Family and Children of the Regional Attorney General of Porto, which is taking place at the University of Minho in Braga.
On the question of whether the eavesdropping and transmission of messages to the press is allowed, Lucília Gago clarified that it is a subject “subject to litigation for breach of legal secrecy”, referring to the fact that “responsible persons must be identified “.
News released this month by TVI/CNN denounces an alleged exchange of favors between PS and PSD in drawing up lists for the 2017 municipal elections to ensure the preservation of certain parishes in Lisbon.
When asked if the disclosure of the wiretapping could jeopardize the investigation, the Republic’s Attorney General declined to comment.
“I’m not saying that the problem is mainly the lack of resources, I’m saying that this case also has that component and what matters is to identify precisely in concrete terms how to overcome the constraints and do it as quickly as possible so that it research in all its different dimensions”, he emphasized, adding that “there is not just one line of research”.
The PS in the Lisbon Chamber said on Wednesday that “there was no pact with the PSD” for choosing candidates for parish councils and rejected “the intoxication of the media space, without decency and without ethics”.
