The PS president guaranteed on Saturday that the National Commission, which met for more than five hours in Matosinhos, in the Porto district, would not comment on the João Galamba issue.
“You know nobody talked about that [polémica com João Galamba] in the National Commission,” Carlos César said upon leaving the National Commission.
This meeting of the socialists’ highest body is the second since the beginning of the year and comes at a time when the government is under pressure with a series of issues being discussed in the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the management of TAP.
The president of the PS proposed a “refreshment” of the government last month and ex-minister Alexandra Leitão even defended that António Costa did a “reset” in his team.
But the Prime Minister has not given any sign in that direction so far and has even decided to keep João Galamba as Infrastructure Minister, directly contradicting the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
According to the chairman of the PS, a government that is “achieving so many successes” in the economic field, in the social field and in all fields, contrary to what is happening even in other European countries, it cannot destroy its image with “business and business”.
Faced with journalists’ insistence on whether João Galamba is able to continue in António Costa’s management, Carlos César reaffirmed that he is not talking about it.
“I don’t talk about it. You know my personal opinion and my personal opinion is that governments should have as many good rulers as possible,” he concluded.
SISTER? “We’re Tired of This”
The chairman of the PS also assumed that the government would not be distracted by the story of the Security Information Service (SIS) because the Portuguese, and even the opposition, “want to know nothing more about it”.
“We have achieved good results, we are very proud of that and we will not be distracted by the SIS story, with the story of who called and who didn’t”, said Carlos César at the exit of the National PS Committee that took place for more than five hours in Matosinhos, Porto district.
The Portuguese are already “fed up” with this subject, they don’t want to know anything about it, he thought.
“It seems that the leader of the opposition doesn’t want to hear about it either because he already realizes that he cannot hide the government’s successes by continuing this story and now he will make up another one because it is. already known to be so,” he said.
According to the socialist, António Costa’s government wins in the economy and in social support, while the opposition only wins in terms of plot.
The PS is “very committed” not to discuss “details, aspects and details” that are not relevant to the Portuguese, but to deepen the current path of improvement in economic activity, benefits and social support, so that the Portuguese have more evidence feel in their lives, in their daily lives and in the problems of their family, shelter and benefits.
“We all have the perception that the results we have achieved are good,” he stressed.
Carlos César, however, assumed that the PS knows and knows that it is not doing everything right and that there are areas with more and less weaknesses.
“What clearly came out of this National Commission is a great pride, I would even say a great joy for the results we are achieving, because we have come off a very difficult path during these seven years,” he underlined.
And he added: “When we came to government, we had problems with the bank, then we had the pandemic, the war, in short, a succession of problems that always complicated government action and always conditioned us for more structural action.”
According to the chairman of the PS, the government “almost always had to be a firefighter” in case of emergencies.
