SIS case. Paulo Raimundo asks that it be quickly clarified who “did not tell the truth”

The Secretary General of the PCP asked this Thursday to “clarify quickly” who “missed the truth” in the case of the intervention of the Security Information Service (SIS) in recovering the computer of the former assistant to the minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba.

Paulo Raimundo, who spoke to journalists on the sidelines of his visit today to the National Agricultural Fair, which runs until Sunday in Santarém, said that during this process “there are things that are poorly clarified”.

“Someone, I wanted to say lied, come on, someone wasn’t telling the truth and that’s what needs to be cleared up. I’m not in a position to say it was A, B or C. That someone was, there was. So let it be cleared up quickly,” he said.

For the communist leader, the country should focus on what is “fundamental”, that is, on the “response to people’s problems, the response to peasants, to their needs, because betting on peasants is betting on the land, on its production ” .

“That’s what the country needs. And these tricks, which are not indifferent, are not small things, which can be solved quickly because they do not benefit anyone. Or rather, the farmers, each of us, do not benefit anyone at, those who get involved in tricks, maybe they have other things to gain, but that’s another problem,” he added.

Paulo Raimundo stressed that, for the PCP, more than for the people who occupy the seats, “the fundamental question is the political option”, so that the departure of João Galamba from the government is worthless as the target of privatization, namely of TAP, if it holds.

“If this minister leaves and another comes, stronger, less fragile, but whose goal, in this particular case, is to privatize TAP, what good is that to us? A name B, etc,” he said, referring to the fact that former minister Pedro Nuno Santos reaffirmed in parliament this week the will “to commit itself to the privatization of TAP”.

“The minister moved with much ado, [mas] the background option remained the same. The problem we face is that if this minister changes, it is worth little if the political option is the same,” he stressed.

Also in the case of agriculture, Paulo Raimundo stated that it will not be the change of ministers that will change “the fundamental issue” of political options for the sector.

“This is what is wrong and it is necessary to change and there are conditions for change,” he said, emphasizing that people, each, have “their characteristics, their way of being.”

For the communist leader, the issue is that the government’s support for farmers “has fallen far short of what was possible and necessary”.

“All you have to do is visit this fair to see the huge potential out there. We have a country with productive capacity, with farmers and the will to produce more, and a land that needs to be occupied from a territorial point of view if well, and in particular, the small and medium-sized farmers also play a decisive role here, in production, in wealth creation and occupation of the territory,” he added.

The PCP secretary-general defended the support for production and farmers, especially small and medium-sized ones, “who are always the ones most under pressure” because they have been left out of the range of support for the sector in particular.

Paulo Raimundo gave as an example that the political commitment is not matched by the efforts of the sector, the 11% fall in farmers’ income and the 50% increase in the trade deficit in 2022.
