Socialist leader Porfírio Silva this Saturday welcomed the message of “mobilization, unity, perseverance and continuity” from the President of the Republic and, regarding the boos to the Minister of Infrastructure, he believed that disagreements are normal in a democracy .
“The President of the Republic, not referring to indirect issues, but referring to the long term, referring to the essential, to what makes us all proud to be Portuguese, delivered the important message, which is always an important message for a country to face what it has to do. And it is this message of mobilization, unity, perseverance, continuity, which the PS warmly welcomes and I think it marked this June 10,” Porfírio Silva considered.
Asked about the fact that the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba, was booed during the ceremonies commemorating the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, which are taking place in Peso da Régua, in Vila Real, the member of the National Secretariat of the PS replied , referring to the words of the President of the Republic.
“I think today we should follow the example of the president: focus on the global message, a message of unity, of mobilization of all Portuguese. We all know that we are fortunate to be in a democratic country, and that is why we do not ” We don’t all have the same opinion on all things. Fortunately, it would be bad if we all had the same opinion, or if some could not express the same opinion,” he said.
When asked how he read the words of the President of the Republic when he considered it necessary to cut off “the dead branches that reach the whole tree”, Porfírio Silva replied that “as the President of the Republic himself said, the speech on December 10, June was not a speech about the present, it was not about daily practice, it was about the great challenges of the country”.
“I want to say, as the son of farmers, and because it makes sense, with June 10 in the center of the Douro today, people who work on the land know very well that every task has its time. Waiting for time to do every job, and that’s how you get good harvests: it’s knowing how to do every job at the right time, without rush, with focus, and knowing that it’s essential to be able to build something that will last, with the ability to keep going to go and hold on,” he added.
With June 10 at the center of the Douro, he continued, “it’s a good reading of that long-term vision that everyone who works on the land needs to have.”
“Because no one sows today to reap tomorrow, they know that there are many steps to reap, and we should all know that, because in our diversity, in the plurality of the country, in the differences of opinion, in the differences that it is natural that exists in a democratic society, knowing that this is part of the job of finally having a good harvest,” he concluded.
The socialist leader added that the PS saw itself in a speech “that includes all Portuguese” and “looks to the future”.
“The fact that June 10th takes center stage in the Douro, a region where centuries of human work has transformed nature, ingenuity and effort to create a different landscape and a different reality, is an inspiring choice. Because the Douro itself, because it that is expensive, that secularity, shows the importance of perseverance, continuity, focus on public policy, he said.
The president of the republic today defended that Portugal should not give up on creating more wealth, equality and cohesion, as only in this way can the country maintain its “projection in the world”.
