Liberal Initiative (IL) president Rui Rocha said on Sunday that the prime minister’s insistence on keeping infrastructure minister João Galamba in government was “completely unreasonable and incomprehensible”.
“I believe that there is clearly some stubbornness and persistence. I have often spoken about these different branches, of the government itself, which no longer contributes anything positive to the country. But it is clear that, for example, insisting on a minister, like João Galamba, is completely unreasonable and incomprehensible,” said Rui Rocha after meeting with the president of the volunteer firefighters of Pombal, Leiria district.
The IL leader repeated that João Galamba “has already handed in his resignation, that’s why it doesn’t take much to write the letter”.
“For example, I know João Galamba didn’t have TAP’s restructuring plan on his computer, but he will have the letter he wrote. So just take it, sign it again and send it to the Prime Minister. It’s certainly not something that lasts long. It won’t be on Frederico Pinheiro’s computer [ex-adjunto de Galamba]will be on João Galamba’s computer,” he underlined.
Rui Rocha added that this will be a way for the Minister of Infrastructure to “solve his own problem and the problem that the Prime Minister has created for João Galamba himself, using him as a pressure tool and a challenge to the President of the Republic, it’s good, but also for the Portuguese and this is frankly unbearable”.
The president of the republic on Saturday denied referring to a “specific case” when he said in his Portugal Day speech that it was necessary to “cut down the dead branches”, adding that this was a “message from the future”.
“I didn’t speak for a specific, punctual case, that’s not what I’m saying,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Rui Rocha stated that on Saturday, after the speech of the head of state, he could also clarify his statements: “in fact, I referred to specific departments and in the specific departments there are several ministers of this government, including João Galamba, but not only “.
“We have a withered government tree, with branches that are already very affected, and so I assume and repeat what I said: there are indeed many branches that harm the land. What we really need is a new tree to give hope again to give.” and another trust to the Portuguese, which this government is clearly no longer capable of,” he insisted.
