Defender Toti Gomes and midfielder Renato Sanches were left out of the minutes sent to UEFA and will miss Portugal’s duel with Bosnia-Herzegovina this Saturday, qualifying for Euro 2024 football.
The two players were excluded by coach Roberto Martínez from the final list of 23 players that complete the squad that the national team will use in the match that will be played at the Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.
Toti, from Wolverhampton, is an absolute debut in the work of the ‘corners’ team, while Renato Sanches, from Paris Saint-Germain, is a comeback.
Initially, the Spanish coach summoned 26 footballers for the June concentration, which also includes a duel with Iceland (Tuesday), also from the qualifying phase for the next Euro Cup, but the group was reduced to 25 with the dismissal of Gonçalo Ramos due to an injury
For the Bosnian game, the return of goalkeeper Diogo Costa is certain, after Roberto Martínez announced on Friday that the FC Porto goalkeeper is the ‘nº 1’ of the selection.
The match is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and will be refereed by the Italian Davide Massa.
Portugal leads Group J with six points, followed by Slovakia, which has four, and Bosnia and Iceland, both with three. Luxembourg, with a single point, and Liechtenstein, with no points, occupy the penultimate and last place, respectively.
Only the top two of the group qualify for the final round of Euro 2024, which will take place in Germany.
