Portugal draws and makes qualification difficult

Portugal drew with the Netherlands (1-1) today in the 2nd round of Group A and made it difficult to qualify for the quarter-finals of the European U-21 Championship. The match against the Belgians, on the 27th, will be decisive.

After losing the opening game with Georgia (2-0), the national team entered today’s game with the Orange determined to reach the goal quickly, which was done in the 20th minute by André Almeida. But Brobbey equalized on 78′.

Now the team led by Rui Jorge has to beat Belgium in the last round and hope that Georgia, who drew with the Belgians (2-2) today, does not lose to the Dutch, in order to continue in the competition and battle for the coveted European trophy.

Georgia leads the group with four points, followed by the Netherlands and Belgium with two, while Portugal occupy the last position with only one.

“The Netherlands have a wonderful team, they managed to take the ball from us, they didn’t miss much. When we face these great teams I would have liked to have seen more of our quality with the ball. Another part , our quality on the ball. We have not been able to show what we are really worth,” the national coach told Canal 11 after the match.

Rui Jorge said he is still confident of being present in the quarter-finals: “Belgium’s victory would be better for us. We have to do our job well, play a better game against Belgium and show why we came this far .”
