Without assuming the candidacy, Villas-Boas feels “destined” to be president of FC Porto

Former FC Porto manager André Villas-Boas believes the position of club president is “destined” for him, but refuses to say whether or not he will stand in next year’s elections, against Pinto da Costa.

“As I am very attached to emotion and intuition, I was invaded by these types of feelings and emotions that confirm to me, although it is something that will be in the hands of others -obviously the voters-, that one day this place is destined for me”, The pilot also acknowledged in statements to SportTV, refusing to clarify if this “is for now, in 2024, in 2028 or in any other change in the statutes that can be foreseen and that will change the years in which the elections are held”.

Recognizing that, “at this point”, he is unable to give “concrete answers”, Villas-Boas did not refrain, however, from criticizing FC Porto’s management in recent years, although he praised Pinto da Costa.

“In recent years we have had a sports management detached from the economic realities of the club, which has brought us great success, the result of a person capable of facing all the values and principles of FC Porto and with an unusual personality. capacity for demand and intransigence”, he explained, noting that “FC Porto’s economic situation has been deteriorating for many years”.

Regarding the fan dimension, he confesses that “the first thing he would like to see resolved” is the renewal of Sérgio Conceição, in the name of “the comfort that a blue and white fan would like to feel” in relation to the future.

“For me, he should have renewed post-Inter, winning or losing the game, because he has deserved it for many years and because, if so, perhaps these courtship scenarios would have been avoided, the result of his quality and the quality of the work he has done,” he said on the sidelines of a conference in Matosinhos.

Villas-Boas even warns that the delay in this dossier raises questions for the fans, who want to know “when”, “why it doesn’t advance” or even if “he himself doesn’t want to”.

“I don’t know either, why don’t I talk to him? So, where are the answers to that question? That was the comfort that a blue and white player liked to feel in order to build a future with a coach who has helped us given so much,” he acknowledged.

Certainly, his own guarantee is that “until June 2024” he will not work as a soccer coach, a decision he made when he left French side Marseille “to bet on education and personal development.”

About the next season, he makes a comparison with the campaign “of 2010, because it starts with a Super Cup against Benfica, national champion”, after FC Porto won “three trophies”, but failed in the “main one, which is the championship”.

“Therefore, the Super Cup against Benfica can be, hopefully, like in 2010, the support for a great sporting season in 2023/2024”, points out the coach about the season in which, coming to FC Porto from Académica , won the Super Cup, Portuguese Cup, Primeira Liga and Europa League.
