In what is its 40th edition, the Lisbon Half Marathon, in addition to the candles, will also turn off the lights: for the first time, the 21-kilometre race takes place at night.
Part of Feira de São Mateus, on September 9, begins and ends at the fairgrounds and starts at 7:00 p.m. Also new are the participation of athletes in wheelchairs and the organization of a competition for the little ones, the Kids Race, which starts at 5:00 p.m.
Fernanda Ribeiro, Olympic marathon champion in Atlanta 1996 and bronze medalist in Sydney 2000, is the godmother of long-distance running. Mário Trindade, multi-medalist and European champion of the 100 meters T52 in Berlin 2018, is the ambassador of the adapted event.
In addition to these events, there is also a ten kilometer mini-marathon and a five kilometer walk.
Registration for the race is now open and all participants will receive a kit that includes “a bag, a technical shirt, the bib number and a time record chip,” the organization reports in a statement.
